1702 Fayetteville Street

Charlie Davis and his wife, Bessie Nunn Davis, were the original owners of 1702 Fayetteville. Charlie was a laborer, working for the railroad as a fireman, a drayman for the city, and a janitor. The couple eventually divorced. After the divorce, Bessie continued to live in the house.

 Together, the couple had three children, a daughter named LaVerne, and two sons, William and Charles. Their daughter, LaVerne, would later marry Charlie Massenberg. Charlie was a janitor, and LaVerne was a cleaner in Durham. Charlie and LaVerne lived with Bessie at 1702 Fayetteville until eventually relocating to Baltimore, Maryland. While in Baltimore, LaVerne attended Morgan State College. While in Baltimore, Charlie started working in ship repairs as a rigger for the Maryland Drydock Shipbuilding Company. Laverne worked in can manufacturing. Bessie also moved to Baltimore with LaVerne, where she passed away in 1980.

As of 2026, the building is in good, stable condition.
